Candidate Bill Dean
2016 NAMA Board Member Candidate

Name:  Bill Dean, MD, AP

State of Residence:   Washington

Committee Service:  National Exam Subcommittee, Grandfathering Subcommittee, Schools Subcommittee

Membership Level:  Professional Member - Ayurvedic Practitioner
Board Incumbent

Why would you like to serve on the board?

In order for NAMA to become recognized nationally and become part of the mainstream health care delivery system, we will all have to do our part in making this a reality. So a way to help move along this process is to serve on the board of NAMA….a way to do my part toward serving Ayurveda. We are all doing our part and this is just a small way I can do mine.  I have been serving on the NAMA board since November, 2015 and would like to continue to serve our community in this role.

What skills and experience do you see yourself contributing that will support the management, direction, and growth of the association?

In my previous career as an MD in a medical community I served on many committees and chaired several. So I am quite familiar with committee work and how to make things happen. I have also had the good fortune to chair a Washington state non-profit on medical care quality issues for the state medical association.  My journey into Ayurveda began with the Chopra organization where I did community programs on educating the health consumers of my community about the value of Ayurveda in their own lives.  My attention shifted in 2000 to the Ayurvedic Institute and I continued to further my Ayurvedic education doing seminars and further implementing Ayurveda into my allopathic urology practice. This work culminated in doing the Ayurvedic Studies Program at the Institute in 2011 and finishing in 2014. Currently I am an adjunct faculty at the Bastyr naturopathic medical school teaching in the two year Ayurvedic Masters Program.
