State of Residence:   Washington

Committee Service:  Ayurvedic Yoga Therapist Subcommittee, National Conference Committee, National Exams Subcommittee, Schools Subcommittee, Standards Committee,

Membership Level:  Professional Member - Ayurvedic Practitioner
Board Incumbent

Why would you like to serve on the board?

I am passionate about Ayurveda and interested in promoting Ayurveda as a profession in this country. I am involved in educating and training Ayurvedic professionals as clinicians. I am also involved in the clinical practice of Ayurveda and Ayurvedic yoga therapy to help my patients, creating community awareness about Ayurveda, and presenting workshops at community as well as professional gatherings.

What skills and experience do you see yourself contributing that will support the management, direction, and growth of the association?

I have been on the NAMA board for the last six years, as NAMA president since Nov 2015, served on various committees including Standards, Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy, Examination, and Executive committee. I studied Ayurveda at the Ayurvedic Institute, completing ASP level I and II and the Gurukula program. I have been involved in clinical practice for almost 12 years. I was involved in designing curriculum for the Masters in Ayurvedic science at Bastyr University and have been Associate Professor and Department chair since its inception in 2013. Bastyr has its own teaching clinic where students see patients under clinical supervisor and I am one of those clinical supervisors.

Statement to the Membership:

I am very passionate about promoting Ayurveda in this country as a respected, legal health care field and creating awareness about its holistic healing potential. Coming from a western medical background (practiced for over 20 years as an ENT surgeon), I understand the value of Integrative medicine.

With your support, I have had the honor to serve as NAMA president for the last two years and as a board member for the last six years. I served on various committees including standards committee, Ayurvedic yoga therapy subcommittee, conference planning and National examination committees.

In last few years we have made tremendous progress, our membership has grown significantly. We stablished scope of practice, competency and educational guidelines for different categories of Ayurvedic professionals, launched certification examination and are now working towards credentialing and accreditation for schools with the ultimate goal of licensure for Ayurveda. I ask for your support to continue to serve NAMA.
