Candidate Raja Sivamani
2017 NAMA Board Member Candidate

Name:  Raja Sivamani, M.D., M.S., CAT

State of Residence:   California

Committee Service:  National Conference Committee

Membership Level:  General

Why would you like to serve on the board?

Serving on the board of directors would be an opportunity to work on my passion for Ayurveda. I currently integrate Ayurveda with research and clinical care in the patients that I see and I would like to continue to move Ayurveda forward on the national level. I believe strongly that continuing to expand the discourse of Ayurveda will be essential in expanding how the general public understands and seeks this invaluable knowledge and practices. It would be an honor to serve the Ayurvedic community to work on ways to expand this knowledge by developing initiatives for Ayurvedic discourse, research, and education.

What skills and experience do you see yourself contributing that will support the management, direction, and growth of the association?

I bring skills that bridge clinical experience with both laboratory and clinical research, along with my training in Ayurveda, Allopathic medicine, and dermatology. I am a board-certified dermatologist and work on developing and integrating clinical and research approaches that are both practical and clinically relevant to the Ayurvedic and wider medical community.

I have worked in a leadership role in multiple capacities including serving on the board of directors for Calderm (professional organization for dermatologists in California), the SF Derm Society, Sacramento Valley Dermatology Society, and as the Chair for the Clinical Trials Committee for the Council for Ayurveda Research. I am currently the chair for the Northern California Dermatology Symposium and the co-chair for the General Calderm Meeting and have experience with organizing conferences.

I look forward to using my experiences to support the growth of NAMA at the clinical, research and regulatory levels.

Statement to the Membership:

My passion for Ayurveda stems from my patient care experiences. I am passionate about clinical care, research and education and I would like to work on the board to expand on all of these areas for the Ayurvedic community with the following goals:

1) Promote education about Ayurveda to the general public. I would like to develop tools for NAMA and its members that are practical and direct ways to relay information through publications and social media.

2) Broaden the research-based approaches for Ayurveda among the membership. I believe it is important to take an Ayurveda-centric and simple approach so that all members feel empowered to contribute to the global collective on Ayurvedic research.

3) Expand practical and educational clinical discourse. I have experience in organizing conferences of similar magnitude to the NAMA conference and would be eager to work with the board to develop programs that are relevant and inspiring to the membership base.
