Information about the gut microbiome has exploded recently, and modern biomedicine has recognized the crucial importance of gut bacteria in both health and disease. How you are born, where you live, what you eat, and when you eat all influence the composition of the gut microbiome. This session will explore the latest advances in gut microbiome research and tie this information to Ayurvedic practices.

Diana I. Lurie, Ph.D, is a Professor of Neuropharmacology at the University of Montana. She received her Ph.D in neuroscience from the University of Pennsylvania and directs a research laboratory focusing on CNS injury and the response of the nervous system to natural products, including Ayurvedic herbs. Dr. Lurie is an Ayurvedic practitioner and teaches neuroscience, anatomy and physiology, and courses in Ayurveda. She is an editor at the Ayurveda Journal of Health and serves on the board of the Annals of Ayurvedic Medicine.
