Understanding Mahavaha and Pranavaha Srotamsi


Course Description
This course explores in detail Pranavaha and Mahavaha Srotamsi as explained in the classical texts of Ayurvedic Medicine including various disorders, assessment and treatment. Students learn the causes, signs and symptoms, and pathogenesis of the disorders, as well as treatments through diet, lifestyle, herbal formulas and other therapies.

Course Objective
1. Explain the samprapti for mahavaha and pranavaha srotamsi. 2. Demonstrate the relationship and activity of the subdoshas in mahavaha and pranavaha srotamsi. 3. List in Sanskrit and describe in English (at least 8) common roga for mahavaha and pranavaha srotamsi. 4. Categorize purvaroopa, roopa, and nidana/hetu for each roga according to dosha. 5. Determine single herb and classical formulations that can be used for each srotas. 6. Design a chikitsa plan for each srotas. Suggest ahara, vihara (including shodhana and shamana) 7. Summarize why the digestive system and its various functions are so important in Ayurvedic nidana and chikitsa.
