K. Karuna Fluhart-Negrete M.A., CHT, CMH, LPCC, CAP, RPP Karuna is a Licensed Professional Clinical Mental Health Counselor # 1071 CA #0218761 NM
She is also a certified Hakomi Therapist and Registered Polarity Practitioner. She began her studies in Ayurvedic medicine in 1986 with Dr. Vasant Lad and worked closely with him in his Clinic/Institute for over a decade.
As a Holistic Psychotherapist and Ayurvedic Specialist, she utilizes the universal wisdom of 5 element theory as an educational model to establish greater connection between body, mind and spirit. In Integrative Healing, attention is given to the cooperative relationship between therapist and client.
A therapeutic relational bond can promote greater trust, relaxation, and nourishment leading to corrective neural patterning and deepening of relational bonds.
To integrate somatic healing touch into her psychotherapy practice, Karuna became a Registered Polarity Practitioner. This work opened a doorway for the body-mind integrated psychotherapy and somatic color therapy sessions: Body-Mind Synchronization & Ayur-chrome which Karuna created and became known for in New Mexico.
The clinical results of this integrative style of process work led her to study and become certified in Hakomi, a mindful approach to body-centered psychotherapy. She had successful private practice in Santa Cruz, Ca for 13 years where she specialized in anxiety/depression, loss, trauma and transition for a diverse clientele.
She offered mindful holistic oriented psychotherapy and somatic integrated Ayur-chrome sessions and healing groups. She now continues her integrative somatic psychotherapy and Ayur-chrome sessions. Once again in Albuquerque, NM. She is available for trainings and consultation. See www.colorheals.com
Please give a summary of the experience you have in relation to your chosen topic:
I began working with color and light in the 80's while grieving the loss of my mother in my undergraduate studies at Lake Erie Colleges ' BK Smith gallery and Fine arts department. In 1984 I took a class on color symbology and healing which inspired me to utilize color in my wardrobe.Simultaneously, I was introduced to a Spiritual healing path and began working with hands on healing and vibrational remedies. I met Vaidya Vasant Lad, in 1986 and received a polarity protocol which was the perfect outlet for this energetic healing. In 1987 I moved to Albuquerque to study ASP 1 at the Ayurvedic Institute.
Then I studied herbal medicine with Tierrarona Low Dog and helped set up the NM Herbal clinic which allowed me to clinically practice Ayurveda, herbalism and the making of herbal formulations.
After this training my friend Kevin Spellman asked me to cover for him in the Ayurvedic Insitutes herb room. Not long after I was hired as the first woman herbalist to work beside Dr. Lad. After a five years of study and application I transitioned to the Pancha Karma department as a Shiro Tech and began being requested to offer Body-Mind energy sessions for our clientele.
A couple years later while I pursued a degree in MH Counseling I was hired as Dr. Lad’s assistant to take the overflow PK clients. It was at this time I was able to integrate and set up the color therapy program in the clinic as in the previous four years I met privately with Dr. Lad and we co-created this my signature work, Ayur~Chrome.
