Women's Wellness Through Ayurveda

Course Topic:
TIA (Topics in Ayurveda) = 28

Course Description:
Women’s health is a vast topic that can be confusing and overwhelming. There is a glut of information. However, much of it is conflicting. Compounding this is the fact that research in women’s health is underfunded (according to the NIH) and doctors tend to dissect you into a collection of your parts, rather than seeing you as a whole person. It can be downright frustrating to get to the root causes of your symptoms and imbalances so that you can actually begin to feel better. In this 12-week course, you will learn to listen to and interpret your body’s messages, understand yourself and your relationship to nature, and discover the root causes of your imbalances and how to address them so that you can feel better in your body, and live a more empowered, nourished, and fulfilled life.

Course Objectives::
1. Explain the underlying causes of hormone imbalance and women’s health problems.
2. Understand the functions of various hormones and their relationship to the dhatus and ojas.
3. Understand and recommend diet, lifestyle practices, and herbs, and how they are best applied to heal the dhatus and srotas affected by various women’s health issues.
4. Support healthy menstruation, fertility, aging, and a graceful transition through menopause and beyond.

Dynamics of Ayurvedic Nutrition: Adapt Recipes for Individual & Cultural Needs

  • National Ayurvedic Medical Association (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS
Course Description
Dinacharya, daily routine within the cycles of nature, is at the heart of Ayurveda. Chikitsa, a vital aspect of therapy, literally applies consciousness to, in this case, food. Within the dynamics of Ayurvedic nutrition a practitioner-cook takes into account the 21 gunas and the 6 tastes as they are reflected in the doshas & seasons, when choosing or creating recipes. We live in unusual times, in terms of climate & available resources. Traditional recipes have a balance of the gunas & rasas inherent within them. Yet Ayurvedic practitioners & educators encounter clients who consume different diets, with foods not common to Ayurveda. Meeting challenges creatively with food & culture can make the difference between a successful out come or an intention for healing that is abandoned.

Course Objective
Learn with step by step guidance how to adapt recipes to support the dynamics of Ayurvedic nourishment, in light of how the gunas and tastes interplay within traditional and non-traditional recipes to create a wholistic effect. 2. Begin to adapt specific recipes for different individuals, constitutional types, locales, and needs. 3. Weave sustainability into the adaptation of recipes, opening to alternatives to plastics and factoring in energy/fuel concerns. 4. Utilize food histories and interview techniques to elicit key foods and recipes for oneself and one's clients. 5. Apply the open and focused neutrality of the mahagunas to brainstorm with oneself and one's clients, creating recipes suitable for their individual needs and cultures.
